RAF Waddington Vulcans Karting Team have had a challenging yet inspiring start to the season and we at tlmNexus are glad to be able to support them as they compete in the Armed Forces Karting Championships 2024.
Round 1 started at Wombwell with the Pro-Kart Endurance team walking away with 8 trophies, picking up one for top heavy in the final. In the Premier class, Flt Lt Ling started his first season off novice plates, and despite a damaged engine, finished 5th.
Round 2 at Ellough Park saw variable driving conditions, with AS1(T) Tom Lucas and Cpl Dan Holt finishing Race 3 with 7th overall and 3rd military. Behind the wheel of kart 52, Sgt Matt Daniel finished 16th overall, 9th military and 4th Super Category (S.C.). Cpl Liam Burke at the wheel of kart 52 held 4th place military and 2nd S.C in a race plagued with incidents. While Cpl Will Wright, LCpl Bailey Vernon-Higgs and Sgt Rob Baptista managed to take 29th overall, 20th military and 11th in S.C. despite engine issues.
Round 3 at Clay Pigeon gave Sgt Rob Baptista the chance to learn the track in a novice session ahead of the Official Practice which stood him in good stead, finishing Race 3 in 27th place. On Saturday’s Race Day the team participated in Races 1 and 3, with each race having a 40 kart grid and lasting 110 mins which needed to include 3 mandatory pit stops and a driver change. Having digested the strategy set by the Team Principle (TP) the night before, everyone was itching to get on track after the drivers brief. Cpl Burke finished 3rd in class and 17th overall with Lt Ling finishing 3rd in the Premier Class.
The next round at Fulbeck, Lincs, between 27-30 Jun 24 is going to include a full 4 days of action, with the usual A.F.K.C. Practice and Race days sandwiched between the RAF Karting Open Day on Thu 27 Jun, and the RAF Karting Championship on Sun 30 Jun. Some of the tlmNexus team will be going along to the Open Day and we look forward to another great day at Fulbeck!
