Courageous John continues Winter Olympics pursuit

An accident during a race at the end of 2022 has only made John Stanbridge more determined

We are proud to continue our sponsorship of John Stanbridge and Bob Team Stanbridge (Team GB Bobsleigh) for another season, in their journey to compete at the Winter Olympics in Milan/Cortina 2026.

We have long admired the grit of Team Captain and pilot, John Stanbridge, and since we last reported on his work, he has shown more courage and determination than ever, after an accident during a race in Altenberg at the end of 2022.

Injuries do not deter John Stanbridge

The crash resulted in a fractured vertebra and two ruptured discs in his neck. Just a few months on, John has been running and undertaking plyometric workouts, supported by the excellent facilities at Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre, Stanford Hall, adapting his training to ensure he can return to the sport he loves as soon as possible.

Although not able to compete as an athlete just yet, John has finished up the 2022/23 season coaching the RAF squad at the Littlehammer UKAF WSA Inter Service Ice Championships, supporting his teammate, Alex Cartagena to transition to the pilot seat.

Next for the team is the European Cup/North American cup season where they plan to build on the progress made in the 4-man discipline at the start of the year and their continued progression in the 2-man competitions.

Championship Bobsleigh success is raising awareness and offering more value for sponsors

Bobsleigh as a sport has had the highest level of coverage ever this year, due to the successes of the World cup crew under Brad Hall securing Gold at the European Championships, and Silver at the World Championships.

With this success, Bob Team Stanbridge hope that UK Sport will commit to greater funding to the federation and for some funds to filter down to the European Cup teams and their future development.

John Stanbridge combines his career as an Aircraft Avionics Engineer in the RAF, with his work for Team GB Bobsleigh, where he also takes responsibility for raising the funding needed to train and compete. tlmNexus is pleased in the meantime to be able to provide some much-needed financial support to the team.
